Hallelujah is an English interjection. It is a transliteration of the Hebrew word הַלְלוּיָהּ (Modern Hebrew haleluya, Tiberian haləlûyāh), which is composed of two elements: הַלְלוּ (second-person imperative masculine plural form of the Hebrew verb Hillel: an exhortation to “praise” addressed to several people) and יָהּ (the name of God Jah or Yah).
