This honey dish is made out of wood and brightly colored. The base is decorated with pomegranates with branches and leaves and written on top the Hebrew words “Shana Tova” meaning Happy New Year The Pomegranates with leaves are painted on the sides of the plate as well. In the center of the wooden base a transparent glass bowl to fill with honey. The honey dish is hand-painted with vibrant colors and then lacquered to preserve the colors.
Artist Yair Emanuel, a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, lives and works in Jerusalem. Vivid and harmonious colors as well as a mixture of the old and the new characterize Emanuel’s work, which is designed and crafted in his Jerusalem studio. The principal techniques utilized encompass painting on silk, hand-embroidery, raw-silk appliqué and painting on wood.
