This beautiful wooden painted charity box is shaped like a house and features the gorgeous vistas of the holy city of Jerusalem. The door has a metal clasp and features the word, “Tzedakah” (charity) in Hebrew. The charity box is hand-painted with vibrant colors and then lacquered to preserve the colors. In Judaism, the belief in “charity,” unlike philanthropy or charity, which is completely voluntary, is a religious obligation, which must be performed regardless of financial standing, even by the poor. The most common way to engage in charity is to give of one’s money to the needy. To achieve this end, many have Tzedakah boxes in their home and upon filling the box, the money is donated to the needy or to an organization that helps those in need.
